Love in Business - Part One
This morning I stopped into my neighborhood coffee shop, where I ran into Abby. Abby is a barista so I see her often, usually behind the counter. She is also a college student studying some form of religion, I'm not sure exactly what. This morning Abby was nervous because she was on her way to give a sermon on practical ways we can love each other. Cool topic for a sermon - and an important topic for leaders and managers.
Albert Schweitzer once said, "There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed."
People who accept the mantle of leadership assume responsibility for the institution - which means responsibility for everyone the institution touches, from customers to employees to shareholders to members of the community.
My friend, Rick Krska, is one of the leaders I've met who really gets this. In another post I'll tell you about the role love has played in the remarkable growth of his company, LaserCycle.
One slightly off-topic note. I'm a bit of a coffee fanatic - my favorite coffee of all time being from The Roasterie, a Kansas City specialty coffee company. Try the Guatemalan Shade Grown Organic.
